Each year, Houston’s diverse arts community offers family fun for every holiday tradition, and Kinder HSPVA students and alumni are involved in many of them! To help spread their cheer, we compiled a 2019 Holiday Performance Guide.
And, of course, December is packed with events in our own Kinder HSPVA 2019-2020 Season!
The 100th Annual Reliant Lights Mayor’s Holiday Spectacular (11/30) will feature Tamar Davis (Vocal ’98) among the entertainers slated to perform for the evening event.
The Houston Ballet presents The Nutcracker (11/29-12/29) – Jack Wolff dances in the Corps de Ballet and Elizabeth Priestly Siffert (Instrumental ’98) is the Principal Oboist in the orchestra.
Elf the Musical at TUTS (12/7-12/22) – Catch alumni Julia Krohn (Theatre ’00) as “Emily Hobbs” and Logan Kesler (Dance ’05) on stage!
A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story of Christmas at the Alley Theatre (11/15-12/29) – Shawn Hamilton (Theatre ’82) plays “Mr. Marvel”. Julie Ann Arbiter (Theatre ’07) serves as the Alley’s Associate Production Manager and Aaron Wilson (Theatre ’05) serves as Technical Director.
Panto Hansel & Gretel at Stages Theatre (11/20-12/15) – Tamara Siler (Theatre ‘82) performs in the cast.
More Than Christmas at The Ensemble Theatre (11/14-12/29) – Stephanie York Blue (Instrumental ’81) wrote the music and lyrics for the show, and Ronson Hawkins (Theatre ’17) performs as “Kevin”.
Houston Symphony Chorus at the Houston Symphony — A Mexican Baroque Christmas (12/7) and Very Merry Pops (12/13, 14, 15, & 17) — Catch alumni Sarah Brannon (Vocal ’07) and alumni and faculty member Julia Hall (Vocal ’77) in the Symphony Chorus!
The Black Labrador presents the Final Christmas Sing-a-long (12/15, 7-9pm) – Catch the last Christmas sing-a-long with the Kinder HSPVA Madrigal Singers before this local mainstay closes its doors. Many alumni have been a part of this tradition, and we hope you’ll come to bid farewell to the Black Lab, which has been a well loved gathering spot for our Montrose Campus teachers and students.
Kinder HSPVA’s Young Performers will grace Lights in the Heights (12/14) with their cheery caroling.
The Houston Chamber Choir’s Christmas at the Villa (12/14-12/15) – Bass Greg Goedecke (Vocal ’14) is a member of this lauded (and recently Grammy-nominated!) ensemble.
Houston Brass Quintet presents A Christmas Celebration! (12/16) – Russell Haehl (Instrumental ’08), Trumpet, serves as the group’s Artistic Director. You can also catch the Quintet at the Thing-A-Ma-Jingle on Main Street (11/29).
Houston Symphony presents ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas (12/14) and the Kinder HSPVA Handbell Choir will perform with them!
On 12/28, DocFest presents Everette Harp (Instrumental ’79), who will perform with a host of other talented jazz musicians! All proceeds benefit Kinder HSPVA jazz alumni as well as current jazz students.
Did we miss anyone? If you know of a member of the HSPVA family who is in a holiday performance, let us know here!
