The family of Adam Elkhadem (Visual Arts ’14) invites you to celebrate Adam’s life and legacy on Saturday, July 29, from 5:30-8:30 PM at Art League Houston (1953 Montrose Boulevard).
Two Kinder HSPVA students were recognized by the New York Times‘ 10th Annual Student Editorial Contest. Callisto Lim (Creative Writing ’24) was in the Top 11 Winners, and Sonya Azencott (Creative Writing ’23) received an Honorable Mention.
Calliana Duke (Creative Writing ’23) was selected for Dirt Dogs Theatre Co.’s Annual Student Playwright Festival. Her play, The Fifth Passenger, received a production at MATCH in June.
Samiya Green (Creative Writing ’26) won first place in the “What Juneteenth Means (To Me)” contest organized by 2021-22 Texas Poet Laureate Cyrus Cassells. Read Samiyah’s winning poem.
Rozie Curtis (Theatre faculty) received an Honorable Mention for the 2023 Tony Awards Excellence in Theatre Education Award.
Lizbeth Ortiz (Visual Arts ’94) was featured on KHOU’s Shaping: Houston, which tells the stories of bold individuals influencing Houston’s culture. Ortiz was the official artist of the 2008 Latin GRAMMYS, and she is the founder of The Frida Festival.
Randy Palmer Wrosiv (Visual Arts ’10) was featured in the MFAH’s Artists in Dialogue series. Palmer spoke about his multidisciplinary artworks and commitment to BIPOC Houstonians’ mental health.
James Francies (Instrumental ’13), Burniss Earl Travis (Instrumental ’05), and Jeremy Dutton (Instrumental ’12) performed together at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Read about it in DownBeat Magazine.
Robert Hodge (Visual Arts ’98) teamed up with Austin-based artist Tim Kerr for an exhibition, “No Kings But Us,” at the Blaffer Art Museum in May and June. Read more about their collaboration.
Patrick Renner (Visual Arts ’00) was named AIA Houston Artisan of the Year by Architecture Center Houston and AIA Houston. His show, “Once & Future Architecture,” is on display at Architecture Center Houston through August 18.
Jalen Baker (Instrumental ’13) performed on Great Day Houston and talked about his new album, “Be Still.” Baker is an adjunct faculty member in the Kinder HSPVA Instrumental Music Department.

Peyton Booker (Visual Arts ’15) and Gabriel James (Visual Arts ’15), a.k.a. Lord Gabe, performed at Houston’s 44th Annual Pan-African Cultural Festival. Peyton‘s song “Sweet Honey” was featured on the hit HBO series Insecure.
