Nicole Hurst (Vocal ’00) was a beloved member of the HSPVA community who passed away after an eight-year battle with breast cancer in August of 2021. She is remembered for her exuberance and talent, and used her incredible success to advocate for arts education. She collaborated extensively with other accomplished musicians, including Justin Timberlake, Kelly Clarkson, Janet Jackson, Bruno Mars and Robert Glasper. She performed at the Academy Awards, the Grammys, the Super Bowl and twice at the White House for President Barack Obama. Fellow alums Robert Glasper (Instrumental ‘97) and Samica Knight (Vocal ’00) remember her as a beloved sister and friend, as well as “the fighter, the loving daughter, the sensational singer who’s traveled the world sharing her beautiful gift, the girl with the biggest smile in the world & the friend to everyone.”
Nicole’s family wants to honor her memory with a fund in her name at Kinder HSPVA. Your gift in Nicole’s memory will go towards supporting Music students at HSPVA, especially those who face obstacles in accessing music education.
